CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

We are committed to inclusive casting. All roles are open to actors of any race, ethnicity, and body type. Even though the two open roles are written to be Irish, any and all ethnicities will be considered. All performers must be 18 or older. The age ranges listed are general relative ideas about what ages characters should appear; they do not have to align with actors' actual ages.

Please note that the roles of Maureen Folan and Pato Dooley have been pre-cast.

MAG FOLAN: Maureen's mother, age 50-75. Written to be stout and frail, but this has more to do with mannerisms and movement rather than body type. Manipulative and demanding. Even though she is older, the actor should be able to comfortably fall out of a rocking chair.

RAY DOOLEY: Pato's brother, age 20-35. Quick to temper.

A word about accents: All characters will be portrayed with an Irish accent, but you do NOT need to already be able to do an Irish accent to audition. NOVA NightSky will arrange for dialect coaching as needed.

At auditions, please only use an Irish accent if you have a legitimately trained or natural Irish accent. The director is NOT casting based on how good your Irish accent is, but rather how strong your choices are and how well you communicate with your scene partner. Unless you have been trained, accents tend to get in the way of that work and "lock you in" to one interpretation of the script. If you do have an Irish accent, please be prepared to demonstrate for us.
